ABOUT LASIK EYE SURGERY

What are laser eye surgery?

Laser eye surgery is a procedure that helps improving your eyesight.

It is also referred to as a refractive surgery or vision correction.

It’s a procedure that involves using lasers to reshape the front surface (cornea) of your eyes so that you can focus and see better. It is done to resolve short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism.

According to the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, 95% of the people who had an eye surgery are happy with the results.

Types of Laser Eye surgery

  1. LASIK - done with two lasers. One is used to open a flap on the surface of cornea. The other one reshapes the cornea underneath. The flap is brought back to its place and heals without stitches
  2. SMILE - ‘small incision lenticule extraction’ -  your cornea is reshaped through a small hole. The hole heals itself.
  3. PRK/LASEK - thin, clear skin that covers cornea is removed. The surgeon reshapes your cornea with a laser. The thin skin grows back on itself.

PRK is a method performed for the last 30 years, while LASIK and SMILE are a new generation of surgeries.
